To sum if cells contain specific text, use the SUMIF function with a wildcard (**). In our example,

How the formula works

In the example, the SUMIF function:

=SUMIF(A4:A8,”*White*”, B4:B8)

A4:A8 – The range of cells that we want to check against our criteria.  

“*White*” – The criteria with a wildcard(**) that defines which cell will be added.

B4:B8 – The actual cells to add, against the criteria.
