UNICODE function in Excel

Use

The UNICODE function returns the Unicode number for the first character of a supplied text string. For example, the function returns the Unicode number “65” corresponding to the first letter of the text  “ABCD”.

Example

Syntax

=UNICODE(text)

text – The first text character for which the Unicode value required.

Notes

  • The UNICODE function was first introduced in the EXCEL 2013 version and it belongs to the text functions category.
  • The function will return the #VALUE! error if data types are not valid.
