SEARCH function in Excel

To find the position of a character in a text string, use the SEARCH function. For example, to find the location of the letter “b” in the word “vegetable”, the following function will be used:

=SEARCH(“b”,”vegetable”)

The function will return “7”, because, the letter “b” is the seventh number character in the word “vegetable”,

The SEARCH function is not case-sensitive and allows wildcards.

1– The SEARCH function mentioned below results the location of the word “grow” from the sentence.

Note that Excel also considers spaces as a character.

Syntax

=SEARCH(find_text,within_text,[start_num])

find_text – The text to find.

within_text – The text to search within.

[start_num] – [optional] The position from where the search will start.
