Sum if cells contain two specific texts

To sum if cells contain two specific texts (e.g. x and y), use SUMIFS function. In our example, we will sum values against the specific texts of “Black” and “White”.

The SUMIFS function used in our example is:

=SUMIFS(B5:B9,A5:A9,”*Black*”,A5:A9,”*White*”)

where,

sum_range (B5:B9) – The range of cells to sum against criteria.

criteria_range1 (A5:A9) – The range to be tested using criteria1.

criteria1 (“*Black*”) – The criteria which defines which cells will be added against the criteria1. (e.g “Black”)

criteria_range2 (A5:A9) – The range to be tested using criteria2.

criteria2 (“*White*”) – The second criteria to be used on range2 or criteria_range2. (A5:A9)
