Sum if cells contain an asterisk

Use SUMIF function with the special escape character “~“, to sum cells containing an asterisk “*“. In our example below, let’s see how the formula works.

Formula:

The SUMIF function is:

=SUMIF(A5:A9,”*~*”,B5:B9) where,

range (A5:A9) – The range of cells to be tested against the criteria,

criteria (“*~*”) – The criteria to sum only cells with an asterisk “*”, use with the special escape character “~“,

[sum_range] (B5:B9) – The actual cells to sum against the criteria.
