Data validation in Excel

Data validation is a feature in MS Excel that ensures accuracy of input data. In this example, we will illustrate how the data validation feature work.

1- Select the cell in which you want to create a rule.

2- Go to the Data tab, in the Data Tools section, Select Data Validation. Or alternatively, press Alt + A + V and select Data Validation.

In our example, we will restrict a cell in which you could only enter a date between a specified start and end date.

3- The Data Validation box will appear. In the Allow list, select Date, in the Data list selects between and lastly choose the start date and end date. Press OK.

4- Now enter any date in cell B6 other than the month of March and press Enter. Excel will show a box containing data invalid message.

5- Enter any date from the month of March now. Excel will let you enter the date.

To remove data validation from the cell, select the cell, on the Data tab, in the Data Tools section, click Data Validation, and then click Clear All.
