Dependent Drop-down Lists in Excel

Main Lesson: Data Validation in Excel

Earlier, we have learned how to create a drop-down list in Excel. in this example, we will illustrate the use of dependent drop-down lists that display choices depending on the value selected in the first drop-down menu.

Once you have created a simple drop-down list, execute the following steps for dependent drop-down lists.

1- On the second sheet, create the following options.

2- Create the following named ranges:

NameRange Address
ChoiceA1:A2
CarB1:B3
MotorbikeC1:C3

2- Select E1 cell from sheet1 and Go to the Data tab, in the Data Tools option, select Data Validation.

3- From the appeared Data Validation box, select List from the Allow option and type the =INDIRECT($B$1) formula.

4. Press OK. Result.
