DATEVALUE Function in Google Sheets

The DATEVALUE function converts a date formatted as text or in any other valid format, into a proper Google Sheets date format. For example, the formula =DATEVALUE(“12-Dec-19”) returns a serial number in the Gsheets date system that represents “12 Dec 2019”.



where date_string is any valid and understood date format to be converted into Gsheets proper date format.


In the above example, the date was in text format, so the formula returns the serial number in the Google Sheets date system representing “26 Dec 2019”.

In the above example, the formula returns the “#VALUE!” error due to the reason that the provided date was not in the recognized date format.
