Cellular respiration is the process of energy production in all organisms where cells generate energy in the form of ATP. There are two types of respiration viz., aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration.
Aerobic respiration is the process of cellular respiration which utilizes oxygen. In this type of respiration, the respiratory substrate is completely utilized and releases energy in the form of ATP and gives CO2 and water as end-products. The chemical equation of aerobic respiration is given below:
C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O+ Energy (ATP)
Anaerobic respiration takes place in the absence of oxygen and the respiratory substrate is not completely oxidized so, it releases a little energy from glucose. This type of respiration occurs in microorganisms like yeast and some bacteria and parasitic worms. The chemical equation of aerobic respiration is given below:
C6H12O6 → 2 C3H6O3 + Energy (ATP)
Difference Between Aerobic and Anaerobic Respiration
